Each District nominates both a Female, and a Male District Senior Olympian of the Year. The criteria for awarding this honor are such that only the "cream of the crop" of the District are eligible for nomination. This year's District Senior Male Olympian of the Year is:
Hershel Williams
Hershel ("Red") Williams
Hershel (his friends call him “Red,” so NOBODY calls him “Hershel”) has participated in the GNOSO Games, the Harahan Senior Games and the LSOG State Games in Baton Rouge, LA since 1995.
Red plays Softball, Tennis and Volleyball twice weekly. He plays Pickleball and Shuffleboard at least once per week
He volunteers and helps out in any way he can, keeping scores for many events during the Olympiad, helping with the Banquet decorations and anything else that comes up.
His Softball extends beyond GNOSO, leading to his involvement with the Diamond Club of Greater New Orleans.
Red talks tirelessly to anyone who will listen, about the importance of Senior Olympics and the fun and health benefits that accrue from Senior Olympics.
He enjoys working with other Seniors – and he always seems to have a great sense of humor. Each year he has increased his participation in Senior Olympics, but entering new sports.
